COME TOGETHER, RIGHT NOW, OVER ME
Malachi 3:16 [NKJV] Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, And the LORD listened and heard [them]; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the LORD And who meditate on His name.
If you are thinking of the Beatles song, Come Together (Abby Road, 1969) – yes, that popped into my head too. However, that clearly not an “appropriate for New Church Ladies” song. But that one line of lyrics “come together right now over me” does make me think about Malachi 3:16 and about getting together over God and Jesus – over the love of the Father and the Son, over the teachings of the Word, over the worship and praise of God and Jesus.
The Hebrew word translated “spoke” (translated “spoke often” in the KJV), could mean just to converse, or it could mean to command, declare, tell, or even sing.
So, these believers, clearly in the future (read Mal. 3:1-15), will spend time talking, singing, declaring, telling and commanding and it will be written in a “book of remembrance.” It is as if God is saying, “Oh, I’ve got to write this down!” It makes me think of catching my own children doing good deeds and wanting to praise them for it.
Coming together over God is exactly what we will be doing this weekend at the New Church Lady’s Conference. It is what drives us to meet together again this year. We will speak about His word and promises. We will declare His works and commands. We tell each other of our need for Him and testify of His intervention in our lives. We will sing! And we will pray together.
We will also follow the example of the new testament Christians as outlined in Act 2:44-47 [NKJV] 44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. 46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. (Emphasis mine.)
Yes, we are also going to eat meals together. “Breaking bread” together is one of the greatest ways to build relationships. There is just something about sharing a meal. That is why, I believe, being “given to hospitality” is so important to God. (See Romans 12:3 and 1 Timothy 3:2) And I hope, if you are coming, you will also plan to join us in fellowship over meal times.
It is worth repeating Malachi 3:16 [this time in the NIV] Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.
Let’s come together over our love of God the Father and our elder brother, Jesus Christ. Let’s talk about what the Lord has done for us and sing songs of praise and thanks. I cannot WAIT to see many of you there. I extremely excited to see old friends and make new ones.
Hope to see many of you at the New Church Lady’s Conference: The Owner’s Manual this weekend!
I’d love to hear your thoughts too. Write me at Nancy@DynamicChristianMinistries.org.
